Jordan and John’s engagement session in Old Town Alexandria was the most perfect evening. We started the night on Prince Street among the beautiful historic homes and the cutest cobblestone street and then made our way down to the waterfront. Even though it was a Friday evening and the town was full of people out and about enjoying the start of their weekend, we had no issue making it look like we were the only ones in the entire city.
It was so fun that I was actually able to meet these two before their session at another client’s wedding. Both Jordan and her friend who’s wedding I also photographed are both NFL dancer’s for the Washington Commanders — I literally have the coolest brides.
Having never been to Old Town Alexandria, I was feeling so inspired to shoot in such a new and unique location compared to my usual locations of mountains and fields. The night turned out even better than I could have imagined. We had the most perfect weather and the most amazing golden light as the sun set. All the stars aligned and allowed us to get the most stunning photos.
Lately, I’ve been feeling so inspired to create art during my sessions instead of just taking photos. Pretty pictures are great, but I really want my couples to be able to feel more depth and emotion behind their pictures. This was the perfect session to allow me to do this. I got home this night feeling so inspired. I immediately started editing some sneak peeks. Usually I would edit the photos and maybe crop them a tiny bit to improve the composition. But this time, I took it even further. Close crops focusing on holding hands. The blowing of her dress in the wind. Out of focus shots focusing on the scenery. This session was exactly what I needed to get my creativity flowing.
